Our solution: Korasit® KS2

The fire behavior of wood plays an important role in construction projects, which is why the requirements for wood products have been adapted for use as wall and ceiling coverings.

The fire behavior of wood plays an important role in construction projects, which is why the requirements for wood products have been adapted for use as wall and ceiling coverings. Based on the Commission Delegate Regulation (EU) 2024/1399 of November 10, 2023, only treated solid wood may be used since August 22, 2024, if a classification of fire behavior has been proven by an individual test.

Checks had shown that the CE marking of many wood products in terms of fire behavior in accordance with EN 14915:2013 +A 2:2020 did not always comply with the CWFT decision (CWFT = Classification without further testing). In order to create a clear distinction, Commission Decision 2006/213/EC has been clarified so that its application is expressly limited to untreated wood. As a result, distributors of wall and ceiling coverings are now responsible for correctly declaring the performance characteristics — in particular with regard to the fire behavior of treated wood products.

Our solution: Korasit® KS2

As a manufacturer of KORA® wood protection products (such as glazes, paints and impregnating salts), we can provide you with security and support on this issue, although we ourselves are exempted from the inspection requirement. Fire tests with Korasit® KS2-impregnated wood, carried out by an accredited institute in accordance with EN 13823:2020 (SBI test) and EN ISO 11925-2:2020 (flammability), after an evaluation in accordance with EN 13501-1:2018 (classification), clearly show that wood treated with Korasit® KS2 in accordance with use class 3.2 does not have a negative effect on fire behavior. It remains unchanged in class D - s2, d 0, as with untreated wood.

Practical benefits

It is important to us to work as realistically as possible. The tests carried out by the institute therefore cover a wide range of practice-relevant façade structures. This makes your work easier — as a processor and user of wood protection products, you benefit directly from these results.
