Our solution: Korasit® KS2

The fire behaviour of wood plays an important role in construction projects, which is why the requirements for wood products have been adapted for use as wall and ceiling coverings.

Fire behavior is a critical factor when using wood in construction, particularly for wall and ceiling cladding. Based on Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/1399 of 10 November 2023, only treated solid wood with individually verified fire performance may be used as of 22 August 2024.

Inspections revealed that CE markings for many wood products didn't consistently match fire behavior classifications under EN 14915:2013+A2:2020 when using the CWFT (Classification Without Further Testing) approach. To eliminate confusion, Commission Decision 2006/213/EC has been clarified to apply exclusively to untreated wood. This shifts responsibility to suppliers to properly declare performance characteristics – especially concerning fire behavior of treated wood products.

Our solution: Korasit® KS2

As the manufacturer of KORA® wood preservatives (including stains, paints, and impregnation salts), we offer assurance on fire compliance—even though we’re not legally required to conduct testing.

Independent fire tests (per EN 13823:2020 and EN ISO 11925-2:2020) at an accredited lab, evaluated under EN 13501-1:2018, prove:

  • Korasit® KS2-treated wood (Use Class 3.2) does not worsen fire performance.
  • It retains the same classification as untreated wood: D-s2, d0.

Practical benefits

We emphasize real-world applicability. Our institute's testing covers numerous practical façade configurations, simplifying your work. As processors and users of wood protection products, you benefit directly from these results.
