Koralan® wood oil products make the difference

Based on Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/1399 of November 10, 2023, since August 22, 2024, only treated solid wood may be used for wall and ceiling cladding if a classification of fire behavior has been proven by means of an individual test.

The “distributors” of wall and ceiling coverings are responsible, who must also make statements about the fire behavior of treated wood products as part of a correct declaration of the performance characteristics.

Although, as a manufacturer of KORA® wood protection products (such as glazes, paints and impregnating salts), we dedicated ourselves to this issue using the example of our product Koralan® Wood Oil Special and carried out appropriate investigations in 2024.

The tests carried out by an accredited institute in accordance with EN 13823:2020 (SBI test) and EN ISO 11925-2:2020 (flammability) and their results assessed in accordance with EN 13501-1:2018 (classification) show that proper treatment of wood with Koralan® wood oil family products (Koralan® wood oil special, wood oil, greying glaze, color glaze, UL 100, UL 110 and design glaze) does not have a negative effect on fire behavior. The fire performance class remains unchanged for class D - s2, d0, as with untreated wood.

It was important to us that we work as realistically as possible. The tests carried out by the institute therefore cover a wide range of practice-relevant façade structures. This makes your job easier because, as a processor and user of Koralan® wood oil products, you can benefit directly from these results.
